Näkki – Shimizu, Snellman, Ström

Premier

26/09/2024

Location

Joensuu

Näkki is a moving performance in a public space, created by Lindon Shimizu, Veera Snellman, and Elina Ström. The work centers on a massive and spectacular costume as well as character-driven choreography.

According to Finnish mythology, Näkki is a creature dwelling underwater, luring people to it by changing its form. In this performance, Näkki leaves its polluted habitat and emerges from the water on a revenge mission into the city.

With the Näkki myth, the working group highlights the alarming state of water bodies and brings performing arts visible into the public space.
